Special Operations Team

The Special Operations Team is a branch of the River Edge Fire Department that operates out of Company 1. This unit is made up of 8 specially trained firefighters from both companies who have certifications in high angle, confined space and swift water rescue.

Ten years ago a need for a technical rescue team was established after a number of rescues in town that required ropes, pulleys, hauling systems and mechanical advantage. Since then, the need of a special rescue team was confirmed for any out of the ordinary rescue situations. For the past ten years the team has been operating and storing equipment on Truck 1. But because the team has been growing, acquiring new equipment and gaining more respect, it was necessary to separate our specialized equipment from the truck company and purchase a separate vehicle to operate out of. Today the team has 10 members, its own vehicle (1-7) and is growing larger.
